Ng Wen Yan • About
As the valedictorian of her university cohort, Wen Yan holds a Bachelor's degree in music performance and is a member of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society of the Republic of China. The membership recognizes and honors those who are the top 1% of undergraduate graduands in each university based on the cumulative grade prior to the semester of graduation as well as the excellence in moral conduct.
Wen Yan also holds an LRSM (Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music) in Piano Performance, a Grade 8 (ABRSM) in Viola Performance and a Grade 8 (ABRSM) with Distinction in Music Theory. Upon graduation from the A-Level H2 and H3 Music Programme in Dunman High School (DHS), she had received offers to further her music studies at RCM, RNCM, RBC and RWCMD in the UK, as well as Soochow University in Taipei, Taiwan, where she has taken courses in performance, composition, Orff Education, piano pedagogy, acting, chamber music, digital music, recording, jazz and more.
As a pianist and violist, Wen Yan has been performing for various occasions in both Singapore and Taiwan, including solo concerts, duet performances, chamber concerts, ensemble performances, masterclasses, and wedding gigs.
To date, she has performed at venues ranging from the Esplanade in Singapore to the Song-Yi Hall and the National Recital Hall in Taipei, Taiwan. She had made her debut as solo pianist in Singapore in 2019 and in Taiwan in 2022, performing works by composers ranging from Beethoven to Chopin, Liszt, Alkan, Fauré, and Prokofiev.
Wen Yan has also served as a piano accompanist for music examinations (A-level, O-level, university and ABRSM etc.), masterclasses, competitions and choirs.
On top of taking part in competitions such as the biennial SYF Arts Presentation as the Principal Violist of the Dunman High School String Ensemble (DHSSE), she has played the piano for the Soochow University Choir in Taipei, Taiwan, and was part of chamber groups ranging from duets to trios and quintets.
